In the integral rehabilitation project of the monumental complex of the parish of San Andrés, carried out by Cabbsa, the restoration of the Chapel of San Isidro, recognized since its inauguration in 1669 as one of the main works of Madrid’s baroque style, stands out.
The chapel dedicated to San Isidro, patron saint of Madrid, was located in the church of San Andrés, and unfortunately was destroyed by fire in 1936, at the beginning of the Civil War. Cabba carried out a meticulous reconstruction of its interior between 1986 and 1990, with the purpose of accurately replicating the original chapel. For this purpose, he used the few fragments preserved and some photographs taken before the fire.
The bases, which reach the height of a man, were made in the original rich stones, while the columns and the entablature, at a significantly greater height, were executed in wood with gold leaf and stuccoed plaster imitating marble. The drum and the dome, at a great height, present a water painting that has been made with a fading technique, which confers a visual effect of great intensity.
